The heating of a new build in Belgium is now dictated by EPC requirements. Three options still dominate the market.

1. Heat pump

Air/water heat pump or geothermal: the favoured solution to reach EPC thresholds. See new-build EPC.

2. Underfloor heating

Optimal comfort, low inertia with a heat pump. Standard in recent constructions.

3. Residual gas option

Increasingly marginal. See new house Brussels for local practices.

Questions about new-build heating

Is the heat pump mandatory in new builds?
Not formally, but EPC requirements make the heat pump virtually unavoidable to reach the required thresholds.
Underfloor heating or radiators?
Underfloor heating offers better thermal comfort and frees up walls. Favoured in new builds.
